Doula Training

I thought I would take this opportunity to tell you all a little more about the Doula Training I have attended and future training I am hoping to attend.

My training was held in Ely, Cambs and was held by Nurturing Birth. It was a three day course, and involved a pre and post course module to complete.  I am now going forward to become a recognized Doula with Doula UK, this involves being under the ‘wing’ of an assesor/mentor while you compleate four births and four postnatal jobs – all of which you reflect on and ‘write up’ – the clients also feedback on thier experience.

We went through birth physiology, interventions, signs and stages of labour, breast and bottle feeding, types of parenting (eg attachment parenting), support networks, organizations we can signpost to,why many people choose to employ a Doula, what a Doula does and doesn’t do, importance of getting to know your own scene (eg hospital policies, local services ie childrens centres) we saw some beautiful footage of babies being born and shared our knowledge and experience in different areas (mine mainly being breastfeeding) we also looked at ways of supporting women and men during different stages of pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period, contracts we can use and further training and support avaliable to us.

It was intense but it was great, I not only learned a lot but it was also reassuring to know much of the information I already has was correct!

My next stage is to find some clients! As i am still going through my accreditation proces with Doula UK I am offering both birth and postnatal packages at heavily discounted rates. I am based in Peterborough, Cambs and can travel locally. If you or anyone you know would like to know more please do not hesitate to contact me – >email< please do also contact me (or leave a comment) if you have any questions / comments etc.

Comming next time…….. Why a Doula? – some common reasons people choose to employ a Doula and my reasons for becoming a Doula.

Sj xx
