Abbies – Induction – Mich

I went in on the thursday 26th July for my induction and had my first prostin gel that morning, then i had 2 more 6 hrs apart on the friday. Then on the saturday morning i was examined and still hadnt had much progress apart from softening of the cervix so the nurse performed a stretch and sweep which hadnt been able to be done previously due to my cervix not being ready. I then waited for the doctor to decide what was going to happen next, she examined me and found i was now 4 cm so the sweep actually did something and did another stretch and sweep. I was now far enough for my waters to be broken and i went down to labour ward. I was then examind yet again and had another sweep and stretch and was given 2 hrs to see if i could progress on my own. I was monitored on and off during that time to keep an eye on the baby. After the 2 hrs were up i was examined again and found not much had changed but the contractions were starting to get more painful but i could still cope without pain relief and just rocking which was the best i could do as i was unable to move around. My waters were then broken by the midwife which was actually not that painful, much less than the internal exams i’d had so far anyway. I think about an hr or 2 later the contractions were getting too painful and the gas and air was only just helping by then, i also then needed the syntocin drip and decided that i wanted an epidural then. The anaethetist came in and got all ready to do the epidural when the anaethetist got called away for an emergency cs, i felt like i wanted to cry lol. i then had pethidine as the gas and air wasnt enough, and had the drip and saline put in my arm. I then spent an hr with the gas and air and pethidine to try and help with contractions but they were really painful by now, then the anaethetist came back and did my epidural but it only worked on one side at first so had to lie on my one side to get it to work on the other side. I was then pain free and had my catheter inserted. I was also on continuous monitoring now and just lay there while my body contracted and felt all peaceful.Later on the midwife checked me and said i was 9 cms and too let her know when i felt an urge to push. Apperently the contractions were starting to push abbie down the birth canal without no effort from me shortly after, and about 8 o clock the midwife said she could see abbies head and said she could see her hair. I think that was when i realised my baby was actually coming. I then lay on my side as this is the best postion for people with spd to deliver in. The midwife could see the babys head resting on my perineum and then i just felt the urge t push and couldnt stop it so i then pushed with my contractions and after 2 contractions abbies head was born and i then had to pant til the midwife checked to make sure the cord wasnt around her neck which it wasnt. I then pushed through the next 2 contractions and abbie was born. The midwife then held her up so i could see if i had a girl or boy, and i was so shocked to see a little girl there that i couldnt comprehend that she was a she lol. I then had the injection for the placenta delivery and the midwife then delivered the placenta which i didnt feel a thing of. The delivery of abbie was a much nicer experience for me than my previous labour in which i needed a ventouse and there was tons of doctors appeared towards the end which scared the hell out of me, this time seemed much more relaxed and i was pleased with how it went.
