Emma yours looks gorgeous! unstretched tip to tip it's 43" but don't forget it also needs blocking, but that will mostly affect the outer edge I think. I really love it actually, I need to do one for me

I fancy having a go at this, they all look gorgeous. I think it might take too long for me to do though Off to look at the pattern again and see if I can find some yarn i's like it in.

Another gorgeous one to inspire me well done Mich. I had to grit my teeth and frog some of mine this morning - I was obviously too tired and it had been too long a gap when I picked it up again last night. I had stopped after what looked like a line 2 - but forgotten that it was actually a line 8 and so I worked the short rows in the wrong place F/C I can now spend a bit of time on it as the shop will be closed for August and I only have one custom to do over the hols (unless I can find some nice washable Aran yarn to make skirts for my friend's girls).

What like superwash Aran I had to frog mine back 4 gussets when I was on the last row I'd only worked 3 further back when i should have done the 5. Tis a lovely feeling when it is done though. I found the middle section the worst cos it felt never ending.

What like superwash Aran I haven't found any nice Aran in a fully washable wool mix yarn - things say Aran but then you check the m/100g and it's way off - and the colours I've found are pretty meh! I think I need to persuade my friend that SW wool is the way to go. Must look out some links

What should it be?

I had to do exactly that last night (for the second time ) The pattern would be easier to follow if it just said to work the 12 rows then work the short rows rather than sticking them in the middle of it but missing them every second time!

What should it be? Yours is what it should be! I've been looking at commercially dyed yarns - anything from 100m/100g to 200m/100g seems to be passing as 'Aran' it's very confusing! I think my friend has been put off SW a bit thinking of the 'gentle' washing thing rather than just bung it in with everything else she needs educating

I've just written the rows out in a bizarre way that probably makes no sense to anyone except me ... it's fine, except when I'm trying to knit and play cards at the same time, or knit and cook dinner, or knit and watch a film...

I just write my repeats oput as 1-6 7-12 1-6 7-12 etc etc for however many repeats are needed, cross off each set as done and only short rows on 1-6 I'm just at the end of section 7 What needles are you planning on doing aran with, I thought I'd do 5 (ish) and then 8 or 9mm for the bigger ones ?

I write lists of 1 2 s13 s14 s15 etc 1 2 5 6 1 2 1 2 5 6 for each set of repeats & cross the numbers off when I've done a row (because I seem to be stuck on doing just one row at a time atm)

I'm with you on one row at a time I just look at what I've done to figure out which section I'm on I have taken to putting lifelines in just in case since I had to frog though

I managed a whole 12 row repeat while the kids were swimming this morning - I am only on the third section so that's probably not saying much - but I don't *think* I made any mistakes. I'm rather pleased it's starting to get a bit bigger now - I kept thinking it looked like a willy warmer before

I'm just about to start section 8 I'm really pleased with how this is turning out ... psychologically it feels good to be well into the second half now ... every k2tog makes it seem faster & closer to the end
