Something someone said on another parenting forum has made me have a think. The discussion was on a trial at the Old Bailey involving an eight-year-old girl and two 10-year-old boys she’s accused of a serious sexual assault. The basic premise of our conversation on the forum was a) why was an eight-year-old out on her own in the first place; and b) how did two 10-year-old boys know enough to carry out the attack they’re alleged to have done.
One argument put forward was that parents don’t take enough responsibility for their children growing up without seeing and hearing and watching things which give them this kind of information, but another equally argued for more responsibility from TV programme makers, video games designers, film producers …

Nappy addiction

I have a nappy addiction. And no, before you all ask, I’m not sniffing the chemicals in the plastic disposables widely available and publicised in pretty much all mother and baby related literature. I mean beautiful soft fluffy cloth nappies, made from lush minkee, cuddlesoft, warm fleece, ethical cottons and bamboo fibres. I have to say, I wasn’t expecting to end up addicted to something as prosaic as nappies but from the first time I saw the new style of resusables I was hooked.
Gone were the days of rock hard terry toweling that my brother and I had been subjected too a few too many decades ago to mention. In their place were a variety of styles all with one thing in common, they could …

Why use reusable Nappies?

Why use reusable Nappies?

Ok, so first, why not?
Well, I suppose people would argue that disposables are just so
handy, no mess to deal with and better for nappy rash. Hmmm is that it?
I seem to have run out of things to say about them!
Lets deal with those issues first then. First of all, did you know that nappy rash is actually caused by the reaction between urine and poo? So, it doesn’t actually matter what type of nappy you put your child in, if you don’t change them immediately after they have ‘soiled’ their nappy then they will be prone to nappy rash.
As for dealing with mess, well in the 2 years I have been using cloth on my son and …
